Disaster Preparedness Drill for International Students

October 20, 2025

On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the fall quarter disaster preparedness drill was held at the TUFS International Residence. TUFS International Residence conducts disaster drills twice a year, in spring and fall, for its residents.?

This session included an earthquake simulation using a seismic experience vehicle, as well as emergency reporting, fire extinguisher operation, and AED training. Approximately 140 international students—mainly those who enrolled in the fall—participated and learned how to call emergency services (119), use fire extinguishers, and operate AEDs.?

The seismic experience vehicle simulated a magnitude 7 earthquake, offering a rare and valuable opportunity for students from countries with little or no seismic activity to gain firsthand awareness of earthquake risks. It served as an important step in preparing for safe daily life in Japan, where earthquakes are common.
